Write for Us Accounting: Self Assessment and Tax Guest Posts

Merin Tax Return prepares and files Self Assessment returns online for people across the UK: first-time filers, the self-employed, landlords, CIS workers, delivery riders, expats and higher earners. Our blog exists for the moment before someone hires us, when they are trying to work out whether they need to file, what they can claim and what HMRC will ask for. We would like more experienced voices helping to answer those questions.

If you landed here searching write for us accounting or accounting write for us, you are in the right place. Plenty of accounting blogs that accept guest posts write for a global audience; ours is strictly a write for us UK opportunity, built around HMRC rules. This page sets out what we publish, what it costs, the standards every article must meet and how to send your idea. Prices are low and fixed: £15 for an editorial guest post, £25 for a sponsored post, and £10 extra if you would like our writers to produce the article for you.

Who reads the Merin Tax Return blog

Most of our readers are individuals, not finance teams. They include:

  • People filing a tax return for the first time after starting a side business or renting out a room
  • Sole traders, freelancers and contractors who want to claim every allowable expense
  • Couriers, drivers and riders paid through apps
  • Construction workers checking whether CIS deductions mean a refund is due
  • Landlords, including Airbnb hosts and owners who live abroad
  • Employees earning over £100,000 or £150,000 who suddenly have to file
  • Expats and people arriving in or leaving the UK partway through a tax year

They read because a deadline is coming or a letter from HMRC has arrived. A guest article that answers one of those worries clearly will be read in full and shared.

Who should contribute

Our write for us accounting programme suits anyone with hands-on knowledge of UK personal tax:

  • Qualified and part-qualified accountants, bookkeepers and tax advisers
  • Payroll professionals and finance staff who handle employee tax queries
  • Journalists and bloggers who write about money for a UK audience
  • Founders of tax, banking and bookkeeping apps
  • Self-employed people and landlords who have learned the system the hard way

Statutory accounts, bookkeeping routines and year-end work are welcome too, so accounts write for us pitches go through the same email address as everything else.

What we publish

Tax returns sit at the centre of the blog. Ideas that connect to them in a practical way include:

  • Who has to send a Self Assessment return and how to register for a UTR
  • Allowable expenses, mileage, use of home and record keeping
  • Tax refunds, rebates and claims for overpaid tax
  • CIS refunds and tax for subcontractors
  • Rental income, the Non-Resident Landlord Scheme and furnished holiday lets
  • Capital Gains Tax, including the 60-day report on UK property sales
  • Foreign income, split-year treatment and double tax relief
  • High-income child benefit charge and the tapered personal allowance
  • Pension contributions and tax relief for higher-rate taxpayers
  • Making Tax Digital for Income Tax and what it changes for small filers
  • Penalties, late filing appeals and payments on account

Please look through our blogs and news page before pitching, so your idea covers new ground.

Tax and Self Assessment ideas

A large share of pitches arrive through tax write for us and write for us tax searches. The strongest ones pick a single situation and walk the reader through it: how a delivery rider works out mileage, which boxes a first-time landlord fills in, or what to do when an HMRC calculation looks wrong. A write for us accounting pitch on keeping receipts or choosing between cash and traditional accounting also fits well here.

Business, startup and finance ideas

Did a search for business write for us, write for us business or small business write for us bring you to this page? We will take your idea if it ends with the owner’s personal tax position. A small business blog guest post on drawing a salary versus dividends would work, and so would a startup guest post covering the first year of self-employment and what to set aside for tax.

The same inbox handles business startup write for us, business finance write for us, write for us finance and finance write for us enquiries. We do not run separate programmes for a business blog write for us, write for us business blog or finance blog write for us pitch. One set of rules and one email address cover them all.

Money, banking and personal finance ideas

Personal finance write for us ideas are welcome where tax is part of the answer, such as how savings interest is taxed, what happens to ISA allowances after a move abroad, or how a pension lump sum affects a tax return. Money write for us and banking write for us pitches get the same test. A personal finance guest post or investment guest post must explain the tax side and must not push readers towards particular products. Budgeting and frugal-living articles belong on another personal finance blog write for us site.

Property, construction and gig-work ideas

Many of our clients are landlords, so property write for us pitches are always read closely. Construction write for us ideas on CIS registration, gross payment status or reclaiming deductions are equally useful. We also want practical guides for app-based workers, who often find out about Self Assessment far too late.

Software and fintech ideas

Readers increasingly file through apps, so software write for us, SaaS write for us and fintech write for us pitches are worth sending. The article should help someone keep records or file correctly. If it mostly promotes one product, it will run as a sponsored post.

Topics we will not publish: crypto trading tips or token promotion (articles on how crypto disposals are taxed are fine), forex signals, betting and gambling, CBD, vaping, weapons, adult content, payday or high-cost lending, tax avoidance schemes, or illegal activity of any kind. Pieces on non-UK tax systems are turned down too.

Guest post guidelines

Every write for us accounting submission must meet these rules, including finance guest post and business guest post pitches. Drafts that miss them are returned with feedback or declined.

  1. Unpublished work. The article must be new, written for Merin Tax Return and not available anywhere else online. We run a plagiarism check on every draft.
  2. UK rules, current year. Use British spelling and pounds, and state which tax year each figure, threshold or deadline relates to.
  3. Evidence. Link every rate, allowance and date to GOV.UK or published HMRC guidance.
  4. Something to do. Give readers a worked figure, a short checklist or clear steps to follow.
  5. Readable. Short paragraphs, descriptive H2 and H3 headings, and any technical term explained when it first appears.
  6. Written by a person. AI tools can help with research, but the finished draft must be checked, edited and written in your own words.
  7. Sensible links. Stay within the link allowance for your chosen option, and avoid linking to any site on our restricted list.
  8. Images optional. If you send any, you must own the rights or hold a commercial licence. Images should be at least 1,200px wide and come with alt text.
  9. Bio. No more than 50 words, sent with a headshot.
  10. Editing. We may shorten text, refresh figures or adjust headings. Any change that alters your meaning will be agreed with you first.

How to submit a guest post

  1. Email your pitch. Write to editorial@merintaxreturn.com with the subject “Guest post idea: [topic]”. Include two or three proposed titles with a line about each, links to two published samples and whether you want the editorial or sponsored option.
  2. Wait up to five working days. If our answer has not arrived by then, we are passing on the idea this time.
  3. Send the full draft. Once we agree a topic, send the article as a .docx file or Google Doc link, together with your bio and photo. For the writing service, just send the keyword and anchor text.
  4. Review. We check every figure and source, then return any edits for you to approve.
  5. Publish, then pay. The article goes live first and the PayPal request follows with the published link.

  • Samples: links to two articles you have had published.

You can also reach the team through our contact page. Mention guest post in your message so it reaches the right person.
